A thread like this one suggests that I'm not alone in this approach. LR is that, and it would be nice if I could get it without making some "indefinite" financial commitments. That's why so many people have embraced the subscription.īeing a hobbyist, I don't need PS, that's why I need a very good and versatile raw converter. Lightroom is very replaceable nowadays - Photoshop is not. It will be a while before any of the contenders delivers the working equivalent of Smart Objects and many other powerful features present in Photoshop.Īffinity Photo or PhotoLine have equivalents of Smart Objects already. Look how long it took Adobe engineers to introduce Color Range and Luminosity masking to LR. And then you get conditional blending on top of that (4*32-bit floating point precision) - they introduced it 5 years ago. But pray, what's missing in dt blending modes? To get Lab Lightness or Lab Color in PS you need to do a destructive conversion (or dance around with a Smart Object).

I never said that dt is better than PS - that would be a foolish thing to say. , Darktable is hopelessly behind, even in those areas you mention (layer blending modes). It's not so seamless if you have to create a secondary file (tiff/psd) and move from one workspace to another. Given that Lightroom and Photoshop are part of the subscription package and work seamlessly layer blending modes), so I'm quite happy, thank you very much

I'd say that darktable beats both LR and C1 in certain areas (e.g.
